Rational Exponents
Solve
If we deal with the exponents first, we see that the exponent
reduces to 1. Hence the answer is 3.
What about ? We can break it up
into parts, as 9 = 3 2. Hence the answer is 3.
Rules to know:
if n is even, than a is
0, if n is odd, than a can be any real
number.
To calculate, take
either the n th root of a, then raise it to the m th power, or
raise a to the m th power and then take the n th root.
Some exponents dont work out. When the exponent is an
even number, the number you are trying to find the root must be
even. If the exponent is odd, it can be solved.
